Yenagoa Missions Update
Updates from the church in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, Nigeria
The Shanks and Thomas' were able to meet (via zoom) with Gbenga and Gina Atolagbe, who lead our sister church in Yenago, the capital of Bayelsa state in Nigeria. We also met their new campus intern, Paul, who is studying the bible with 20 people on 3 different campuses in 3 cities. This would not have been possible without our missions offering.
The church in Yenagoa had 52 members when the Savannah church began supporting them financially (and in prayer) and now they have 89 members, with a prayerful goal of 100 by year's end. Many have been baptized, and many more are studying the bible. Many teens are studying the bible, and have a need to purchase Teen Bibles.
In addition to leading Yenagoa, the Atolagbes are helping churches in 3 other cities (Aba, Calabar and Owerri).
Please be praying for them. There are many needs. Inflation and unemployment in Bayelsa are both nearly 30%. There are a number of people who are very sick in their church. Electricity regularly goes out (including during our conversation). They were able to buy a generator, but petrol (gasoline) is very expensive there. They are hoping to get solar panels, but they cannot currently afford them.
Gbenga and Gina expressed their deep gratitude for our support. They would not be able to do what they are doing without our financial support, and of course, prayers.
Please remember and plan ahead to give your special missions offering. Our collection date is August 31st, but you can give at any time before then. Our goal is 10 times our weekly offering, but some people may want to give even more to help meet the great needs in Nigeria. 100% of the offering will be designated for needs in Yenagoa.
